ATTAKWAS 2022: Oudtshoorn/Groot Brak
On Saturday, 15 January, 6 of our cyclists took part in the Attakwas event. The event features two races i.e. the Attakwas Extreme (121 km starting in Oudtshoorn and finishing in Grootbrak) and the Attakwas Half (52 km) which starts and ends in Grootbrak.
Damon Terbanche and Coach Paulos Sigonyela took part in the Attakwas Extreme. On the day Damon had some trouble with flats, which cost him a lot of time. In extreme heat, the already extremely challenging race became even more grueling. However, they both rose to the challenge and finished the race in good positions.
Waydon Koopman, Jamelyn Maart, Jaydrien Pietersen and Hurley Julies took part in the Attakwas Half. Though not as grueling at the Extreme, it is still a very tough route and extremely high temperatures contributed to the challenge. All our cyclists finished the race except Jamelyn who could not finish due to a flat at the last water table.
We are extremely proud of the team, who gave more than their all on the day and once again held Knysna Sport Academy’s name high.
